Our Story

About Mayada

Over three decades of passion, artistry, and dedication to the ancient feminine art form of bellydance.

“Dance allows you to find yourself and lose yourself at the same time”

The Beginning

Mayada discovered bellydance in 1994 at the age of fifteen, and it was love at first shimmy. What began as a teenage fascination quickly evolved into a lifelong passion that would shape her career, her identity, and the lives of hundreds of students across Canada.

From those early days, Mayada immersed herself in the art of Egyptian-style raqs sharqi, studying with master instructors and developing her own distinctive style that blends technical precision with joyful, expressive movement.

Pioneer & Media Creator

Mayada founded MID-BITS — Canada's first bellydance magazine — bringing the community together through interviews, technique articles, and event coverage. She also created and hosts Bellydance Talk Radio, a platform that connects dancers, instructors, and enthusiasts from around the world.

Teaching Legacy

Mayada has taught at some of Canada's most prestigious institutions, including the Royal Ontario Museum, Ryerson University, York University, and Arabesque Academy. She operated a thriving Toronto studio for over a decade and has been a guest instructor at studios and conferences across North America.

Her teaching style is known for its high energy, anatomy-informed technique, and her signature encouraging smile that puts even the most nervous beginner at ease. Students praise her ability to build confidence while demanding excellence — a rare combination that keeps dancers returning year after year.

Performance Career

As a performer, Mayada has graced some of the most prestigious stages in North America. She was a soloist with the renowned Arabesque Dance Company and has an impressive performance resume that includes:
